From the Romanian city of Transylvanian, this is the “Staked Heart” of the Vampire known as “Dracula.” Count Dracula also known as Vlad Dracul, or Vlad the Impaler was originally staked in 1447. A wooden oak stake that was blessed by a regional Cardinal of the Catholic Church was pounded into Dracula’s heart by a local knight of the realm. In 1500 just before the Norman invasion into England, his grave was opened and the stake was removed. Vlad bit the grave diggers, changed into a bat an flew away. The grave diggers then turned into vampires and started a epidemic across the countryside. The Count was spotted next in France. Again a knight hammered a wooden Oak Stake through his heart. This time the stake was blessed by Pope Benedict himself. Then a Cross and Rosary were placed around Vlad’s neck for extra protection. Holy water was sprinkled on him and it burned his whole body away, leaving just this Staked Heart. Garlic was also laid in each corner of the coffin for extra protection. In 1710 Dracula’s “Staked Heart” made it’s way to the America’s. This is that Heart.
